Bloodbank@HSA needs your blood. Will you help?
An appointment was made immediately after I was informed of the blood shortage in Bloodbank@HSA. In fact, the consistent drop in blood stocks was made known in June 2010. Earlier in the year, it was A+ blood that was lacking. Around this time in the year, it is B+ blood stocks that has taken a hit. That's my blood group, so why not?
I used to be a semi-regular donor, beginning in my National Service with SAF. They had a blood donation drive in Sungei Gedong Camp and that was all it took for me to offer my blood a couple more times. You would have thought I have been donating all along. Factually, I haven't been giving any since 2003. Somehow, I just dropped out. Therefore, going back to the donor couch is a pleasant turn-around. I'm intending to make it a permanent fixture in my life now. I haven't felt this happy for a long time, anyway.
If you have no prior experience with blood donation, rest assure it's pretty painless. Except, for that little injection of anesthetic which feels nothing more than a red ant bite. One might wonder, why should we even care? Today, I offer my blood to someone who needs it. I will never know if I will need your help one day by giving me the privilege to use your blood to save my own life.
To cut it short, here are the opening hours of Bloodbank@HSA if you decide to begin helping someone today. Do take note of the other donor requirement.
Tuesdays to Thursdays 9.00am to 6.30pm
Fridays 9.00am to 8.00pm
Saturdays 9.00am to 4.30pm
Sundays 9.00am to 2.00pm
Closed on Mondays and public holidays
TIP: It will be much faster if you call them at 6220 0183 for an appointment. Walk-in donors will have to wait a little longer through the process. I had an appointment and in less than 30 minutes, I found myself on the donor couch while some walk-in donors who arrived earlier than me were still waiting.
I still love the old slogan. Give Blood, Give Life.
